Alternate Vibes a.k.a Joel Heatley is a young new producer from England with a very melodic style. After discovering Ultima C in the last year, Basswerk goes for another Drum & Bass talent that puts the music back into the focus. "Things will never be" is a melancholic, electronic vocal track,  "The dawn" is a bit more dancefloor orientated but matches the same mood. Both incorporate a stunning beauty of feelings and athmosphere.

Yes, now there it is - basswerk dc1 is the first digital "Album" on Basswerk. No, this doesn't mean there won't be any more CD's. In fact, we don't even know exactly if even this one will be on CD finally, be it to respond to german Telekom ads implying that CD's harm the environment.  No, this is not a "best of" compilation, but it is a special selection from various upcoming and past Basswerk vinyls and releases from its Basswerk Files sublabel.

Especially working with the Basswerk Files Sublabel made us think about the idea of compiling tracks that work together for a long time. Now this idea became reality and we call it a "digital compilation" - or "dc" in short.
DC1 is not a style sorted collection. There are different degress of energy and vibes, but to us the tracks have in common that they are nice to listen to and are not only made for the club. And of course this is not gonna be our last compilation. Artists are:  Subz & Matik, Dabs & Cain Mos, The Green Man, Paul SG, Ultima C, Incident, Hiten, E.ric, Squash, Freeze, Soulpride, Mystic Dan, Sol.ID, Enea und Kantyze. Ja, es ist soweit -- die basswerk dc1 (digital compilation) ist das erste digitale "Album" auf Basswerk. Nein, das bedeutet nicht, das es keine Cd's mehr geben wird. Tatsächlich wissen wir nicht, ob diese Zusammenstellung nicht sogar eventuell noch auf CD verewigt wird, und sei es nur um die Telekom zu ärgern, die das als Umweltschmutz bezeichnet. Nein, das ist keine "Best Of" Compilation, aber eine spezielle Auswahl von diversen veröffentlichten und auch einigen noch unveröffentlichten Basswerk Vinyls und Releases des Basswerk Files Sublabels.

Insbesondere die Arbeit mit dem Sublabel Basswerk Files und die Vielzahl der veröffenltichten EP's (2009 kommen wir auf 12) haben in uns schon lange die Idee geweckt, später Alben mit Tracks zusammenzustellen, die zueinander passen. Diese Idee ist nun wahr geworden und wir nennen das eine "Digital Compilation" oder kurz "DC". Die DC 1 ist keine "stilsortierte" Zusammenstellung. Es gibt durchaus unterschiedliche Härtegrade und Vibes, aber die Tracks haben gemeinsam, dass sie nicht nur für den Club geeignet sondern auch unterwegs gut hörbar sind. The Green Man a.k.a TGM runs Basswerk and Basswerk Files and stands for very musical Drum & Bass and Breakbeat productions. "Airwaves" is a deeply gliding track with airwavy noises and a deep bass following his sound aesthetics of the "You Decide" Album. It was meant to come out earlier, Polar and Engine music wanted to sign it, at the beginning it was promised to Kabuki - but somehow everything went wrong.
Included on this EP are also two non-D&B tracks: Spadina feat. Teknostep which was previously released on TGM's successful "Infinity 12''" and "Kaffee mit Milch", an earlier contribution to a "Bogaloo" label compilation which has not been released digitally.

Dabs & Cain Mos deliver a winter mood, melancholic EP after their surprising success of "Relieve" on their Arrivederci Roma EP earlier this year. After having his first release on Basswerk Files in 2007 Dabs (native italian Davide Rustici who in fact left Rome and is now living in Perth) gained worldwide reputation in 2009 with various vinyl releases.

Alessandro Greco a.k.a ENEA from Bodensee area in South Germany delivers four mellow, jazzy, elegant and funky tunes for Basswerk Files #034 liquid jazz EP following up his "STAR" feat. MIKA success track on Basswerk Sessions Vol. 3 compilation and various other releases (Have A Break & Maki Rec). This is a very nice modern Jazzfunk EP from Enea, who is also playing bass and producing a Live project called "Astral Travelling".

Nme Click from Ulm is one of Germany's most famous D&B crews for ages and a regular highlight on big raves all over Germany from Breakzone to Basswerk and their very own "Echoes from the Future".  They are the german "boygroup" of Drum & Bass, every crowd loves them. Vali, Heiko, Önder (DJ Grim Reaper) and Marvin (MC Marvellous) have also had some releases in the past including "Always On My Mind" with Dementia on Basswerk and some smashers on Stuttgart's  Dimension Rec run by DJ Linuz. Together with Zero Method from Hungary, Goku and Rare Groove they team up for a big release, a stunning EP with five track showing the spectrum of the Nme Click's sound. This is rocking every party.

Basswerk Files #032 features musical drum & bass party music. Although one track is called "Behind the sorrow", Ultima C from Prague (voted as czech D&B producer of the year) makes a sound that can easily be described as "happy". One may compare it to the early "High Contrast" with a bit more Sub and Effects. Ultima C has also been featured on Basswerk's 34 vinyl with "Just for a moment".

Die Party am Tag der deutschen Einheit (Sa 3.10.) von Basswerk & Pathfinder bringt neben einer Kombination aus Basswerk, Pathfinder und Quake DJ's einen Gast, der es als einer von ganz wenigen Artists schafft, mit einem musikalischen, wenig harten und von alten Jazz-/Funk-/Dub- und Soulsamples beeinflusstem Style extrem tanzbaren Sound hinzubekommen. Die Grooves von Random Movement treiben mit ungekünstleter Energie nach vorne ohne jemals Gewalt anwenden zu müssen. Einer seiner grössten Protagonisten ist DJ Marky. In seinen Sets finden sich immer wieder jede Menge Random Movement tracks und auf seinem Label Innerground wurden auch zahlreiche veröffentlicht. Zwei exzellente Beispiele hierfür, die sich auch in Green Man Sets immer wieder finden und die das Kölner Publikum vom hören vermutlich kennen wird sind "A good start is saying no" und "Psychedelic Drainpipe".

Ausserdem sind mit Green Man und Jumpat vom Basswerk label (Jumpat hat derzeit auch einige Kooperationen mit BTK am Start, die auf internationalen Labels und auf Basswerk erscheinen werden) sowie Basic und Rinc von Pathfinder sowie Hi-Radiation von Quake Kölner DJ's aus drei Lagern am Start die das gesamte musikalische Spektrum abdecken.

Basswerk Files #031 is a rather smooth EP delivering elegant and minimalistic drum & bass in a 2009 fashion. Incident from hungary team up with young german talent Paul SG, who has also been signed by LTJ Bukem's Good Looking label. Paul SG is living in Vienna and is also part of "Soulgrifter", basically that's what "SG" stands for. Together with Madmen & Poets they appeared on Basswerk Sessions 3. "Darky Eyes" sounds like easy neurofunk in a dubby and electronic style while "Lost Frequency" uses lightweight oldschool beats in an athmospheric way. Finally, Incident's "Loneliness" is another smooth tune by the hungarian crew following up their successful "Vacate" track on Basswerk Files. To be out soon! Basswerk Files have reached number #030 and releases a very special showcase EP of brazilian talent Vinicius Honorio a.k.a BTK and its hard to decide which of those four tracks is our favorite. BTK played at our Basswerk sessions earlier and is really talented in doing fast beats of all styles, which attracts interest all over the world. Travelling around Europe as dj with forthcoming beats also on Renegade Hardware and Subtitles, BTK is a very busy guy and a fresh talent in the scene. Coops include Mindscape, our Basswerk resident Jumpat, Resound, Uman, Presence known and more.

"My Soul for your love" is receiving heavy support by main names in the scene such as DJ Marky and combines soul with energy drums.

"Prophecy" is a deep track that was well worked out mainly together with Presence known and mastered by Mindscape.

"No Justice no peace" is a bit more "easy" reduced drumwise and comes with a deep bassline. It is the first released track out of many cooperations with Basswerk & Quake resident Jumpat and there is more to come.

"Imprint" finally is a typical energetic BTK style track and probably the most powerful of all four on the dancefloor. Watch out for more BTK stuff to come!
